The Aurora Australis

Have you ever witnessed nature’s light show  dancing across the night sky?  This colourful display is often referred to, and known as ‘The Southern Lights’. What causes this spectacular illumination,  Aurora Australis?

When a solar flare occurs it is the trigger of an aurora. A solar flare is when the sun ejects a cloud of electrons ions and atoms into space.

(Next) “the ions and atoms hit earth's magnetic field the magnetic field acts as an invisible shield. Because of the shape of the magnetic field the solar flare is attracted to the north and south poles”.

The ions start to accelerate and collide with other particles in our atmosphere releasing energy in the form of beautiful light.

There is an aurora in the North and South pole. The north it is called  aurora australis down in the south pole it is called aurora borealis.
